It is especially good for hollowed out areas of the face due to aging like sunken temples, tear troughs (area under the eyes), droopy cheeks and deep nasolabial folds around the mouth. Patients will gradually look more rejuvenated with plumped up firmness one month after treatment and results will peak at around three months. Unlike fillers which is immediate, Sculptra works gradually to restore what has been lost and once your treatment plan is complete, results can last for up to 2 years.

Dr Priya Sen's talk

Held at The Fairmont Hotel, it started with the launch of Sculptura – a natural collagen stimulator. I saw pretty amazing results, especially of a 63-year-old lady who looks 50! What I learnt from the introduction talk by Dr Priya Sen, a consultant dermatologist at The Singapore National Skin Centre:

How we age depends on these 4 factors:

• Genetics – look at your mom to see how you will age
• Gender – men age faster than women
• Race – Caucasians age faster than Asians
• Environment – stress, smoking, sun, etc

Difference between how Caucasians and Asians age:

• Caucasians have more wrinkles
• Asians have more pigmentation and saggy skin
• Caucasians age 10 years earlier than Asians

The moral of the story taken from the talk: It is easier to maintain good skin than restore bad skin (that’s why I have started my laser treatments now!).

I was all set to review my first filler treatment today. It involves Sculptra, a natural collagen stimulator that will help lift and smooth skin without paralysing facial muscles or limiting your natural facial expressions.

Results include: a youthful appearance with gradual, natural-looking results, skin is also rejuvenated due to the collagen. Treatment with Sculptra can last up to two years.

Naturally, I was excited to witness the results, but, we found out that my candidate, Lee Lee, was allergic to the main ingredient, poly-L-actic acid!

Note to self: Next time, check if candidate has any medical allergies!

In the end, we did a patch test and sent Lee Lee home. If she doesn’t have any allergies, we can do the treatment on her at another date.
